Hello everyone, I am Charley from C8G9. Here are my sharings on studying English.
Having learned English for a long time, I always find vocabulary the key point. A large vocabulary enables us to convey our meanings precisely and briefly when making speeches or writing. I have persisted in memorizing 10 new words and phrases every day for one and a half years, and I can feel my big progress by keeping up doing this. Hope you give it a try, too.（初三8班王品澄）
After accumulating a considerable number of words and expressions, speaking is the next important step. In the past I seldom had the courage to utter the first sentence when speaking, so I tell myself: whatever it is in my mind, just say it in English and never care about making mistakes. Mistakes are what help me make improvements and then, self-confidence. The more I speak, the better my English will be.
At last, I think taking part in activities in English often also helps, especially the English Speech Contest!!! Speaking in front of a large crowd has trained me to be quick-minded and humourous as well. I believe I will keep on working hard at English with my passion.
When I participated in the final, the performance of the first several students were all amazing, which made me more nervous. When it was my turn to choose a topic, I pulled out the slip of paper with shaky hands and began to prepare for my speech. Four minutes passed quickly. As a qualified speaker, I calmly walked onto the stage and smiled at the audience. I told myself, "Confidence is the peak." The moment I started my speech, I forgot my nervousness. I love giving speeches, enjoying the feeling of speaking on the stage and I’m eager to catch everyone's attention. Six of my classmates, who are in the auditorium, neatly held six pieces of CARDS, which were full of encouragement and refueling for me, it warmed my heart suddenly. I tried to speak as slowly as I can, make eye contact with the audience as much as possible, and tried to capture every little detail that would make my speech a plus. Finally, I walked off the stage in the warm applause of the audience. I just feel that no matter what the result is, I have done my best with a clear conscience.
I entered for the same speech contest when I was in Grade Six. Last year I was defeated by someone who was more confident. This year I became more confident but was defeated, again, by someone who was funnier.
Although I have failed to enter the final competition, this won’t change my passion for English speech.
I love speech because firstly, it enriches my knowledge. It’s always necessary for me to do research while writing speeches. It is an interesting way of education.
Secondly, it builds up my confidence and improves my personality. I used to be very shy. But by giving English speeches, I become an active and outgoing girl.
Thirdly, it promotes my critical thinking. Speech helps me to observe the world with great care and form a deeper thinking. （初一11班陈依柔）
