School Curriculum
学校以外语教育和科创教学为特色。
所有英语课程小班授课，坚持“听说领先，读写并重”的教学理念，使用教材为全国外国语学校统编教材《综合英语教程》。我校根据教学特色，设置有单独的英语阅读，写作，口语等课程。学校开设德，法，日，西班牙语等二外，鼓励有条件的学生在适当情况下初步掌握第二外语。
我们不仅关注学生学业方面的发展，也关注其综合发展。因此在统一标准课程之外，我校还为学生提供了选修课程。
在选修课程上，我校借助高校优势，联合开发出孩子们真正感兴趣，有利于其人格发展，丰富其知识面，也有利于升学的选修课程。如哲学启蒙与写作进阶，思维导图，STEM课程等，全面提高学生综合素质。
The school is characteristic with foreign language teaching as well as STEAM creation. All English courses are arranged in group teaching. We insist on the lingual philosophy of “put listening and speaking skills first, strike a balance between reading and writing skills.” As a foreign language school, we have an exclusive use of An Integrated English Course as our textbook. The school provides a sophisticated lingual curriculum system covering English reading, English writing, English speaking, French, other languages for students. A number of We encourage anyone who is interested and gifted to have a knowledge of the second language. Besides the compulsory courses, we provide multiple school-based and college-based elective courses to promote the overall development of students. These elective courses, including Introduction to philosophy, Advanced Writing, Mindset, STEM, help students broaden their horizons, develop their integrity, build their soft skills and loft character, and inspire them to pursue further academic excellence.
1 英语课程
我校的英语课程从听说读写四个方面全方位加强学生英语能力，课程设置也以此为基础。
I. English Program
SISU-FES offers a comprehensive range of English courses to improve students’ overall abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing through a well-designed curriculum.
英语：English
1） EIM英语课程：使用EIM英语教材，涵盖整个初中义务教育阶段所需内容，并在此基础上进行加深拓展，夯实基础的同时提升能力。
1) EIM: Based on the textbook entitled English in Mind, this course covers all the necessary knowledge of English required for junior high school students as stipulated in the English Curriculum Standards for Nine-Year Compulsory Education by the Ministry of Education of the P.R.C. Through the deep-going and expanded teaching by our excellent teachers, it will further enhance students’ mastery of English.
2） 原版书阅读课程：让学生体会原汁原味的英语，训练最重要的阅读理解能力。在中预年级所有学生学习同样阅读内容。一学年的学习之后，根据其成绩不同，分入不同的班级，学习不同的教材。在初三毕业之前课程内完成30本原版著作阅读。
2) Original English Book Reading: Foster students’ reading comprehension ability, which is regarded as the most important quality for English learners, by extensive exposure to original English books. After a preparatory (i.e. sixth grade) year when all the students read the same materials, they will be divided, according to their performance, into different classes with different teaching materials being used when their seventh-grade year begins. This course requires students to complete the reading of 30 original English books before their ninth-grade graduation.
3） 英语写作课程：让学生学会正确优雅的书面表达。从中预年级到初二年级根据学生特点设定不同课程，让学生的写作能力从小句子到短故事，到记叙文，再到夹叙夹议文章，一步一步迈上新台阶。对于需要出国学生，我校提供托福写作课程辅导。
3) English Writing: Help students produce correct and elegant English writing. With diverse teaching contents specially designed for sixth to eighth graders according to their specific characteristics, this course enables students to improve their writing skills in a gradual manner from sentence and short story, to narrative, and then to argumentative-narrative essay. It also provides TOEFL writing instructions for those who intend to study abroad.
4） 英语听说演讲课程：学习英语的目的之一是要能够表达以及交流。听说演讲课程给予了学生非常多的锻炼。通过课堂练习，校内比赛，校际比赛，给学生提供多样平台，让其所学有练武之地。在四年毕业时，学生能够流利且有条理地用英语清楚表达自己的想法。
4) English Listening and Speaking: One purpose of learning English is to express yourself and communicate with others. To this end, the listening and speaking course offers rich opportunities, including in-class exercise, intra and inter-school competitions, for students to practice their oral expression and present their talents. At the time of ninth-grade graduation, students will be able to convey their ideas in oral English fluently and logically.
5） 英语语音语调课程：一口漂亮的英语除了流畅度外，还要有优美的语音语调。作为中预年级英语课程体系中最重要的部分之一，该课程努力让孩子的语音语调向native speaker靠拢。
5) English Pronunciation & Intonation: Pure pronunciation & intonation, beside fluency, is a must for beautiful oral English. As an important part of the English program, this course for sixth graders aims at getting students as close as possible to native speakers in this regard.
6）英语词汇课程：作为学习英语的基石，词汇学习的重要性不言而喻。我们在课程中通过词根词缀的讲解，让孩子理解英语单词的构成，从而轻松记忆单词。
6) English Vocabulary: The importance of vocabulary, the cornerstone in English learning, is self-evident. The vocabulary course makes it easy to memorize English words by systematic explanation of roots and affixes so that students can better understand how such parts form different words.
2）部分特色选修课程
II. Featured Optional Programs
第二外语课程：学校开设德语，法语，西班牙语，日语，韩语等小语种，供有兴趣且学有余力的同学选修。在初中阶段，此课程可以为学生的第二外语奠定基础，并且让学生领略不同国家的文化知识。
Second Foreign Language Program: A wide range of language courses covering German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, etc., are available for interested and capable students at SISU-FES. Junior high school students may acquire the basic knowledge of their second foreign language and get a taste of the cultures of different countries through this course series.
文科类课程：该课程作为常规文科课程补充，从哲学思考和文化素养提高方面着手，让孩子更加具有人文底蕴。课程既包括了如哲学启蒙与写作进阶，先秦诸子专题精讲等哲学思辨类课程，也包括如思维导图一类的逻辑思维课程。
Liberal Arts Program: As a supplement to the regular liberal arts curriculum, this program is designed to enhance students’ humanistic quality through the improvement of their philosophical thinking and cultural literacy. The program includes philosophical courses such as the basics of philosophy and advanced writing, and special lectures on the thoughts of Pre-Qin Scholars, and logical courses like mind maps.
理科类课程：对理科特别有天赋的学生，我校提供包括物理，数学，化学竞赛班课程；对于低年级学生，科学小实验兴趣班能够让其对理科世界产生兴趣，保持其对于科学的喜爱以及好奇心，为后续的学习奠定基础。
Science Program: Students with special talent for science may choose from our physics, mathematics, and chemistry competition instruction program. For lower grade students, the science experiment program will attract and maintain their interest in the world of science, and inspire their curiosity, thus laying the foundation for their future study.
编程机器人课程：作为外语类学校，我们清楚地认识到，将来的语言不仅仅是人类的语言，还有机器的语言。学校根据学生程度不同，开设编程机器人课程普及班以及竞赛班，让学生感受编程的乐趣。
Robotics Programming: As a language-oriented school, SISU-FES believes that both human language and machine language will be dominant in the future. Our school offers robotics programming programs of two levels, i.e. beginner’s level and advanced level, for students to enjoy the fun of programming.
艺术类课程：学校开设音乐剧，戏剧，绘画等选修课程。我校和上海视觉艺术学院合作，聘请毕业于英国威尔士皇家音乐学院音乐剧专业的老师担任我校音乐剧课程老师。通过唱歌，舞蹈与表演三个重要要素的结合，最终呈现出一部完美的音乐剧。同时提高自身艺术修养，建立团队合作意识，养成自信向上的性格。
Fine Arts Program: This program provides courses such as musical theatre, drama, and painting. Thanks to the support of the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, professional teachers graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in the UK are available for the musical theatre course. Students will learn how to present a perfect musical by combining the three important skills of singing, dancing and performing. This program will help build a sense of teamwork and shape a sound personality in addition to the improvement of students’ artistic accomplishment.
